England's Sir Nick Faldo
Six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo and
now television golf analyst said he had no words to describe his
round of 83 at the Open at St Andrews Thursday.
"You can't fall out of a TV tower and come and play here and hope.
Silly boy," said Faldo who won one of his three Open title at the Old
Course 25 years ago.
On his prospects for the second round Friday, the Englishman said:
"Luckily I've got a bottle of Glenmorangie (malt whisky) at home, so
I'll be all right for tomorrow. I'll be refuelled for tomorrow."
Faldo's score, which included a triple bogey on the 14th, was the
worst of the day on a cold and windy afternoon and evening.
"You know, we got the rough end of the day because you know what this
morning was like - flat calm. Yeah, I blame it on the conditions," he
said.
"I'm not a golfer any more. You come here to try to do your best, but
these guys play every day of the week and it's a tough golf course.
I'm not even a part-time golfer."
Faldo, who will be 58 Saturday, is reportedly playing his 37th and
last Open but asked if Friday's round would be his last, he replied:
"I'll let you know. When I walk to the Swilcan Bridge (to the 18th
fairway) I'll let you know."
