Polish Energy Group, PGE, has taken the naming rights to the National Stadium in Warsaw, the home of the Polish national side.

The deal between PGE and stadium operator PL.2012+ is valid for five years and will see the stadium renamed the PGE Narodowy (PGE National). The deal, which expires in October 2020, includes a renewal option.

The 58,000-capacity stadium was built as a key venue for the Uefa Euro 2012 soccer championship, which Poland co-hosted with Ukraine, and hosted the opening match between Poland and Greece.

Financial terms of the deal were not revealed, but according to Polish newspaper Puls Biznesu PGE will pay PLN37 million (US$9.85 million) over the duration of the agreement, though this figure could rise to PLN45 million (US$11.9 million) if certain targets are met.

Marek Woszczyk, the chief executive of PGE, said: "The agreement with PL.2012 + is the next step to achieve our main objective of marketing activities:  achieving a level of brand awareness and recognition of PGE so that every Pole not only knows the brand, but above all wants to be its client."
