World champion Christina Obergfoell will end her
javelin career after next year's Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the
German athlete said on Wednesday.
"That's the plan right now," she told dpa, with her husband and coach
Boris Obergfoell adding they both agreed that there was nothing
better than quitting at the Olympics.
Obergfoell, 34, returned to competition this season after giving
birth to a son in June 2014.
She is yet to regain the form of the past and is not among the top 10
throwers this year but will not be disappointed if she fails to
defend her 2013 title on Sunday, with qualifying set for Friday.
"It is not the end of the world if things don't really work out
because I want to be back at 100 per cent in Rio," she said.
Apart from the 2013 world title, Obergfoell also has five silver
medals from Olympics, worlds and European championships.
