German cyclist Marcel Kittel has agreed a two-year-deal with Etixx-Quick-Step, the sprinter and the Belgian team said Monday. "I want to thank the team for the faith they've put in me, and that they will support me in this new chapter of my career," Kittel said in a statement. "I am looking forward to the new challenges of Etixx-Quick-Step, a team, I consider as one of the best teams in the world." The 27-year-old Kittel recently announced his departure from the Giant-Alpecin team despite having a year left on his contract. He has eight Tour de France stage wins to his name, in addition to stage victories on the Spanish Vuelta and Giro d'Italia, but his 2015 season was hampered by illness. Kittel has been signed by Etixx-Quick-Step as a replacement for Mark Cavendish who left for Dimension Data, the renamed MTN-Qhubeka team. "We are thrilled about the arrival of Marcel," Etixx-Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere said. "In the last years he showed incredible pure speed, which makes him one of the best sprinters in the history of the sport." | |||||
