Williams remains top in WTA rankings after Cincinnati win

American Serena Williams remains top of the women's
world tennis rankings released by the WTA Monday, boosted by her
weekend win in Cincinnati.
Williams, who is chasing a fourth grand slam of the season at the
forthcoming US Open, leads the pack on 12,721 points.
Romania's Simona Halep has moved up to second on 6,130 as a result of
losing the Cincinnati final to Williams.
Inside the top 10, Russia's Maria Sharapova dropped to third while
Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and Serbia's Ana Ivanovic gained one
and two spots respectively to go fourth and seventh.
Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic and Spain's Garbine Muguruza,
each dropped a place to eighth and ninth.
