FIFA says it will release emails belonging
to its suspended secretary general Jerome Valcke subject to certain
conditions, the Swiss attorney general's office said Thursday.
Spokeswoman Anna Wegelin told dpa that football's world governing
body had informed the Attorney General's office Thursday it could
have access to Valcke's email accounts if "several conditions" are
met.
"Today September 24, 2015, FIFA informed the Office of the Attorney
General of Switzerland (OAG) that FIFA will grant access to Mr.
Jerome Valckes Email accounts if several conditions will be
fulfilled," Wegelin said in writing.
"Therefore, the OAG has still no access as requested to Mr. Valckes
Email accounts."
There was no immediate information on the nature of the requested
conditions.
Swiss prosecuting authorities are investigating the bid process and
election of the 2018 World Cup hosts Russia and 2022 hosts Qatar.
As part of the investigation, Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber
has requested access to Valcke's email accounts.
At a news conference in Zurich on September 14, Lauber said a number
of apartments and houses in the Swiss Alps had been searched and
evidence seized as part of the investigations.
As part of a separate US investigation, 14 people including nine
former football officials and five sports marketing executives were
indicted in May on racketeering charges involving more than 150
million dollars.
Valcke, a close confidante of FIFA president Joseph Blatter, was
suspended by FIFA a week ago after it said it had been "made aware of
a series of allegations."
Reports said they concern allegations made by a sports marketing firm
in relation to ticketing packages.
Valcke has denied any wrongdoing and was quoted as saying through a
lawyer that he denies the "fabricated and outrageous allegations."
FIFA's executive committee was meeting in Zurich Thursday and Friday
and was due to be given an update on the Swiss and US investigations.
