UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky Sports has secured the live broadcast rights to La Liga in the UK for the next three years.

The deal will see Sky Sports take its partnership with La Liga into a 20th year and Sky will show over 100 games from the top Spanish division each season over the course of the deal, including every 'El Clasico' fixture. Sky Sports already has the broadcast rights to the Copa del Rey, Spain's domestic cup competition.

Sky Sports beat a rival bid from rival pay-TV broadcaster BT Sport and La Liga games will be available to Sky Sports subscribers on mobile, laptop and tablets via Sky Go. Non-subscribers will be able to see matches without a contract through online streaming service Now TV.

As well as having the broadcast rights to 116 matches from the Premier League for the upcoming season, Sky Sports' soccer schedule also includes 127 matches from the Football League, Capital One Cup, Uefa Euro 2016 and Fifa 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Scottish Football League and Scottish Cup, America's MLS and Dutch Eredivisie.

Barney Francis, the managing director of Sky Sports, said: "This is fantastic news for Sky Sports and strengthens our position as the first choice of sport in the UK and Ireland. The agreement means our viewers can enjoy the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale and Neymar week in, week out throughout the football season."

Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, added: "Sky Sports is the leading sports broadcaster for the UK and Ireland and we are delighted to continue our partnership with them for another three years. La Liga has a huge global fan base and by renewing with Sky Sports, the agreement provides us with the best possible way to showcase our league, our teams and our players to our UK and Irish audience."
