Chelsea say Jose Mourinho is the man to turn the
club's fortunes around but have hinted he may have to do it without a
big investment in new players in January.
Mourinho told reporters on Sunday that he would not quit after a home
defeat by Southampton left the champions with just eight points from
eight games.
The Portuguese said Chelsea would be making a massive mistake if they
got rid of "the best manager they have ever had" and on Monday, the
club made clear their belief he is still the right man.
But it also hinted that he would not be given a huge transfer budget
in January to boost the existing squad.
"The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues
support," Chelsea said in a statement.
"As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the
team's performances must improve.
"However we believe we have the right manager to turn this season
around and that he has the squad with which to do it."
