Italian player Domenico Berardi
Sassuolo striker Domenico Berardi has missed his first
call to the Italian national team after an injury suffered at the
weekend, the Serie A club said Monday.
The 21-year-old pulled a muscle in his left thigh during the warm-up
of a league game that Sassuolo lost 1-0 against Empoli Sunday.
Berardi has played since 2012 with Sassuolo, scoring 42 goals in 102
league games. He appeared 12 times, netting two goals, with Italy's
under-21 national team.
After two years of joint ownership with champions Juventus, Sassuolo
said in June to have acquired his full ownership for a reported fee
of 10 million euros (11.2 million dollars). Juve are said to hold a
right to buy him at the end of the current season.
Italy's boss, Antonio Conte, called 26 other players for the two
games that close the qualification campaign to Euro 2016.
The Azzurri lead Group H on 18 points before playing Saturday at
Azerbaijan (six) and on October 13 at home to second-place Norway
(16).
